New Government Elected In Ontario
12 Jun 2018
Last week, voters across Ontario headed to the polls resulting in a new Progressive Conservative government, led by Premier-designate Doug Ford.
On behalf of its membership, the Newmarket Chamber is well-positioned to work with the new PC Government in support of a prosperous province. As part of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) and the Chamber Network (made up of 135 chambers of commerce and boards of trade across the province) we have worked with the Ontario PC Party on numerous policy and thought leadership initiatives over the years, advocating for business priorities at Queen’s Park. The OCC was cited by the Ontario PC Party on various public policy initiatives in the last year, including during its campaign.
As the voice of business in Newmarket, advocacy remains a key component of what we do. For several months prior to the election, the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce played a role in a province-wide discussion spearheaded by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC). Propelled by the needs of the business community, the initiative focused around the key pillars for growth and economic development under the banner of Vote Prosperity.
There’s no doubt this is a pivotal time for Ontario businesses which are facing a number of issues, including increasing regulatory and tax burden. Strong leadership and bold action is required by the new government to help foster and strengthen overall business confidence in the economy.
Over the next coming months, our focus will be to tackle the issues that our members have identified as impacting their business operations. We look forward to working with the new Government to support pro-growth policies, help strengthen businesses competitiveness, foster job creation, build healthy communities, and improve government accountability. As always, we will continue to keep you up-to-date on all of advocacy efforts.
