Town of Newmarket: Top 10 Best Place to Live Town of Newmarket is recognized as one of the Top 10 best places to live in Canada by MoneySense Magazine and for received the Governor General’s architecture award for the Newmarket’s Operations Centre. The award recognized the Operations Centre for its innovative design and environmentalism on a National level.

Newmarket Chamber Calls for Federal Vision to Grow Ontario's Economy NEWMARKET: A new report from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce makes the case that federal policies are a barrier to Ontario’s economic growth. The chambers are calling on the federal government to play a more productive role in improving Ontario’s economic competitiveness.

Chamber VP Karen Dubeau Recognized With Two National Awards Consistent hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed it seems and, as confirmation of this, Newmarket Chamber of Commerce Vice President Karen Dubeau will be honoured with two national awards this fall in recognition of her efforts.
Karen was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada at an awards ceremony in Hamilton on September 21st where she was presented with the Staff Person of the Year Award – awarded for outstanding contribution, performance and professionalism. One month later, at a special ceremony being held in Montreal, Karen will be presented with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal is awarded to individuals for outstanding service to Canada – individuals that have made significant contributions that have aided the progress of society and civilization throughout the Commonwealth. |

June Awesome Winner Danielle Koren was the first to receive a $1,000 grant to help her run Help-Portrait Newmarket. Help-Portrait is a worldwide movement. It is a collaboration of photographers, hair/makeup artists, and general volunteers that come together to provide the unique experience of a professional photo shoot for the less fortunate in the community. Help-Portrait is simply about giving; rather than taking photographs of individuals and families who may not otherwise have the opportunity.This year the event will be held December 8. New SunEdison Solar Power Plant in Newmarket SunEdison has formed partnerships with MEMC Electronic Materials Inc. and Flextronics to create a new solar panel facility in Newmarket. This new facility will add 400 jobs to the emerging green economy. Although the energy produced will be primarily for local residents and businesses, SunEdison has said they are considering exporting some of the energy.

AODA Coming Soon to Small Businesses The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act is coming soon and all businesses with at least one employee will be affected. The Information and Communication, Employment and Transportation Standards have all been combined in the Proposed Integrated Accessibility Regulation (PIAR). These regulations will be enforced and businesses will be inspected at random.
