Adrian Barker

Sherman Barker Trading Inc.

Adrian is the President of Sherman Barker Trading Inc., operating in the food commodity trading and brokering business in local, national and international markets for the past 14 years.  The company has been based in Newmarket since 2004.

With almost 40 years in the food commodity business Adrian first became involved in the fast paced world of commodities, after graduating from college in the U.K., and joining a London based international trading company. After eight years in the UK head office Adrian transferred to the company's Toronto office in 1975. During his time with the company Adrian travelled extensively including a five month transfer to the company's West African operation in Ghana.

Moving to a division of a large Canadian integrated food retail, distribution, and manufacturing company, Adrian held a number of senior positions, including Director of Purchasing.  During his tenure with the corporation, he continued to travel the world, visiting suppliers and negotiating for a wide range of food materials for eighteen years.

In 1994 Adrian joined a partner and established Sherman Barker, continuing to supply commodities and ingredients to the food manufacturing and distribution industries.

Adrian has many interests outside of his business, namely his family, most sports, and serving as a volunteer with Scouts Canada for the past 25 years.  Currently he is Vice-Chair of the Toronto Scout Foundation.  Joining the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce shortly after moving his business to Newmarket, Adrian has worked on the Golf Tournament committee for the past two years and looks forward to working with the Chamber as a Director of the Board.
