The Newmarket Chamber of Commerce works with partner organizations to develop strategic initiatives focused on building a prosperous community in Newmarket.  By working collaboratively and building new working relationships, a broad cross-section of interests in the community are represented.

Shared Digital Infrastructure (SDI) - Intelligent Newmarket

Shared Digital Infrastructure/Intelligent Newmarket:  Along with the Newmarket Public Library, Southlake Regional Health Centre, the Town of Newmarket and Newmarket Tay Power Distribution Ltd., the Chamber of Commerce is a founding organization of the Shared Digital Infrastructure  (SDI) project.  Designed to build common infrastructure, programs and services, the SDI collaborative is aimed at transitioning our community to a knowledge-based economy.  With initial funding from the federal Economic Action Plan, numerous initiatives were completed, including a video conferencing network, putting 125 years of Newmarket history and culture online and implementing a distributed shared community messaging system.  The SDI program has now expanded to include other public and private sector partners, and is actively participating with the iCanada program from the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance.

Prosperity Round Table:  It has been said that there can be no sustainable prosperity in a community, unless there is prosperity for all.  Based on similiar successful initiatives in Ontario, a Prosperity Round Table has been established in Newmarket.  The first session, facilitated by the Canadian Urban Institute, brought together representatives from business, education, social services, arts, government, health, sports and environmental groups, to discuss key challenges and opportunities for the future development of Newmarket.  The diversity of input has led to greater insight and establishing common ground.  The preliminary report is due before the end of June, and will be made publicly available through the Chamber web site.
